Environmental Portraits

My favorite thing is when someone says to me, "I hate being in front of the camera" or "I'm not photogenic" because then we get to have the discussion about what being photogenic even means!

People who believe they are un-photogenic, in my experience, have at some point in their life, seen a "bad" picture of themselves, maybe the light was bad or they were making a weird face, so now every time someone points a camera at them they unconsciously make that same face or they show that fear instead of their beauty shining through. What I love the most about photography is finding that seed of beauty inside each person and bringing it forward. A photo session can be transformational.
